Specific Learning Difficulties - Individual Programmes

Despite receiving support in the classroom and as part of a small group, some children with additional literacy needs/dyslexia will continue to find it hard to learn to read and write.  These children may need an individualised programme of support to accelerate their progress.

Many schools in Cumbria have experience of using the Cumbria Reading Intervention programme.  This long established and evidence based programme is suitable for children at the early stages of learning to read and write.  It can be implemented by teachers and teaching assistants who have undertaken the relevant training.  Details of this programme can be found here:

For some children with the most significant needs schools may also want to consider seeking advice from the Specialist Advisory Teaching Service or the Educational Psychology Service.
