Hospital and Home Tuition Service

The Hospital and Home Tuition Service (HHTS) caters for young people aged between 7 and 16 who are unable to attend mainstream education due to a medical condition, meeting the following criteria:

  • Absence from mainstream school for a period of 15 days, or more, as a result of a medical condition
  • Absence from mainstream school for long and recurring periods, as a result of a medical condition

A young person will be referred to the service by their mainstream school, with the support of a medical professional.

The main aim of the service is to ensure that young people are able to continue with their education and return to their mainstream school as soon as they are able to. The placement will be dual registration, initially for a period of six weeks following which a review will take place to assess ongoing needs.

Students will be taught in either small groups or 1 to 1, according to medical need. This small group situation enables students to receive individual support in a calm and purposeful environment.
