Learning Disability Health Checks

All people over the age of 14, who have a Learning Disability are entitled to an annual health check from their GP. This is free to everyone who is on their GPs Learning Disability register
This will involve an appointment of up to an hour (30 minutes with the Practice Nurse and 30 minutes with a doctor)
Annual Learning Disability health checks are important as it is recognised that they improve the health and wellbeing of people with Learning Disabilities
It enables information to be shared with local hospitals and emergency health care providers including reasonable adjustments someone may need if they contact them for help. This information is shared through hospital passports and “Summary Care Records with Additional Information”
It is an opportunity to promote healthy living advice, screening programmes and immunisations which we know that people with Learning Disabilities often miss out on.

How to get a learning Disability Health Check:

Ask your GP if you are on their Learning Disability Register
Request an “Annual Learning Disability Health Check” every year
Remember: you do not need to have any health problems or concerns prior to having this. It is a “health check” to make sure you stay well
