We have an exciting curriculum which is enriched by many visitors and educational visits. Our Nursery class visit Ginn Case and Reception enjoy an annual 'Pow Wow' day.  We are proud of the variety of residential visits that our children experience beginning at Year 2 and continuing every year until Year 6.

A range of successful after school clubs e.g. sports, dance and drama take place after school run by members of staff and volunteers. We have a high profile in the community and benefit from their support and the help of parents in school. Schools Extended Local Offer Response

How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

The School provides a holistic approach to education.  All of our children are regularly assessed and the progress that they make carefully tracked, this enables us to target those children who need additional help and/or support.  Parents can make an appointment to discuss any concerns they may have with the class teacher, SENCO and Headteacher in addition to the opportunity to discuss their child's progress at the Parents' evenings.

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

All children deserve the best possible start in life and we are committed to giving every child the opportunity to reach their full potential.

We work with families and other agencies to provide a wide variety of support and aim to ensure that all children have access to provision which is appropriate to their special educational needs or disability.

The special needs of most children can be met effectively through action taken by their mainstream school.

Specific help might include specialist equipment and input from specialist support services, such as speech and language therapists and teachers with specialist knowledge.

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

High-quality provision in mainstream lessons is the most important factor in helping pupils with SEND make good progress alongside their peers.  A combination of differential teaching, specialist equipment and support from Teaching Assistants will contribute to all our children being able to access the curriculum.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

All our children are regularly assessed and their results tracked.  Regular pupil progress meetings ensure that any difficulties are quickly picked up and support put in place.  There are 2 parents' evening year and a written report is also sent home.  Parents are also encourage to attend open afternoons when advice can be given on how best they can support their child.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

The school believes in educating the whole child and their emotional welfare is very much at the heart of everything we do.  Outside agencies are involved as required.

What specialist services and expertise are avaliable at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

We work with families and other agencies to provide a wide variety of support and aim to ensure that all children have access to provision which is appropriate to their special educational needs or disability. Specific help might include specialist equipment and input from specialist support services, such as speech and language therapists and teachers with specialist knowledge.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

Our staff are trained in a variety of specialisms to meet the needs of the children with SEND.

The school has a limited number of places available in our Strategically Resourced Facility for children with autism.  Staff within the Facility are highly trained to enable these children to access their learning.  Admissions are made through an annual meeting of the Local Authority.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

The school has an inclusive policy and all children are involved wherever possible in activities / trips that enrich the curriculum.

How accessible is the setting/school/college enviroment?

The school is accessible with a lift and disabled toilet.

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

We liaise closely with the secondary schools.  All of our children have transition days before they move up to secondary schools.  If the child requires extra visits these are also arranged.

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

The school ensures that all the resources that are attached to individual children are allocated to meet that child's educational needs through provision mapping.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

Individual children needs are accessed and the Head, SENCO and classroom teacher liaise to ensure the best provision for that child.

A very small number of children with severe and complex needs may require SEN provision through an Education Health Care Plan which is the decision of the Local Authority.

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

Parents are invited to their child's review meeting.  The school has an open door policy and assistance is available for any Parents who require help on completing paperwork or who do not have access to the internet.
