The Phoenix Youth Project

The Phoenix Youth Project (PYP) is modern, forward thinking, engaging and exciting Youth Work Project. Working with marginalised and disadvantaged young people aged 8 -19 years old in the deprived areas of Cleator Moor, Frizington, and Moor Row, we aim to; raise aspirations, develop positive behaviour, encourage healthy lifestyles and reduce crime, discriminatory and anti-social behaviour. This enables us to serve the social, recreational and emotional needs of the children and young people in the area as well as supporting the wider local community.

The PYP was founded in September 2003 due to the disbandment of the County Council Youth service in 2000. This left a huge gap in services for young people in our local area. Over the fourteen years since we have grown and developed a team of qualified, experienced and dedicated youth development workers. We became a charity in August 2005 and then in April 2015 we became charitable incorporated organisation (CIO).

We opened Cleator Moor Youth Centre in September 2003 and Frizington Youth Centre in early 2004. Each youth club was open one evening a week at this stage. Early in 2005 we increased the sessions to twice weekly in Cleator Moor. By the summer of 2005 we ran five evening sessions, a second in Frizington as well as our third youth centre in Arlecdon. It was during 2005 that we employed our current Project Manager, Paul Rowe. In March 2007 we added a further evening session to our youth work delivery programme, this was detached youth work and this was carried out across our entire delivery area. We were now delivering six evening sessions each week.
