Mayfield Shield logo Mayfield School

Mayfield School is an all age (4-19) School for pupils with severe and profound learning needs, we serve pupils and their families across the West of Cumbria. Our EYFS to KS3 provision is situated on the outskirts of Whitehaven, a small Georgian Town on the Solway Firth, and our KS4 and Post 16 provision is situated in Cockermouth, both sites are in West Cumbria. Both sites have easy access to the Lake District and the Scottish Borders.

Mayfield is an inclusive environment where all pupils feel welcome and valued, where the teaching and learning, achievements, attitudes and wellbeing of every young person matter.

We have a highly dedicated and extremely talented staff team and we work in partnership with a wide network of professionals to support our pupils and ensure they receive the highest quality provision and care.

We work to ensure our pupils learn and develop in a happy, safe and supportive environment.  Our pupil’s well-being and their happiness is at the heart of everything we do. We support our pupils to reach their true potential. We are a strong and supportive community, where everyone is thinking and everyone is learning.

The aims of our school are for all young people to be safe, happy and enjoy learning.  Specifically, we aim for our pupils to be:

Effective communicators

Independent learners

Prepared for life after school

Creative, adaptable and able to manage change

A strong partnership between school and home is of the utmost importance to us.

 "Everyone Thinking, Everyone Learning".
