Cambian Dilston College is an independent specialist provider of further education in North East England, offering day and up to 52-week residential placements for young people with a learning disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder and complex needs aged between 16 and 25 years. Our person-centred approach provides students with individualised learning programmes developed to effectively match their needs, personal decisions and aspirations, be the focus on daily living skills, vocational qualifications or independent living. Our students gain important life skills and meaningful qualifications, evidencing our commitment to enabling increased choice, control and independence. Our range of multidisciplinary therapies is delivered by a highly skilled and passionate team who work together to provide a holistic care environment. Whilst with us, we encourage our students to develop and pursue their interests and provide them with the support they need to consistently achieve their personal best. Cambian Dilston College is situated in Northumberland close to the towns of Hexham and Corbridge, within easy reach of the city of Newcastle. It is situated in 9 acres of gardens, woodland and horticultural grounds. We, at Dilston, use our beautiful grounds to the benefit of our students in a wide variety of ways including Forest school, outdoor gym, sensory garden, horticultural gardens, animal care and housing, bird hides and feeding stations and a football and activity pitch. The tranquil space that surrounds the college provides a calm and therapeutic back drop to all of our activities and support.

Cambian Dilston College offers a wide range of specialist interventions, tailored approaches and proactive options for learning; providing a total communication environment.

 

Curriculum

There is the opportunity for all learners to participate in a full and active curriculum including flexible routes to accredited qualifications from pre-entry to Level 2.

 

The launch of our new study programmes offers 3 distinct routes to learning:

·         Skills for Communication and Wellbeing

 

There are 5 strands of curriculum:

·         Physical Wellbeing

·         Emotional Wellbeing

·         Citizenship

·         Functional Skills

·         Preparation for Transition

 

There is an opportunity for all learners to participate in a full and active curriculum including flexible routes to accredited qualifications.

 

All study programme pathways and curriculum areas are holistically underpinned by the RARPA (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement) principles.

Work Experience

As part of their course, learners are offered the opportunity of access work experience, supported by a dedicated job coach. Work experience placements continue throughout the year allowing learners time to prepare and settle into their placements, apply their class based learning into the work environment and build meaningful, person-centred employment experiences.
