Orgill Primary School Logo Orgill Primary School Nursery Class

The Early Years is a large unit consisting of 28 reception children, 35 nursery children who attend either a morning or afternoon session and 19 two year olds. Children in reception are split into three ability groups for Read/Write Inc. and three groups for maths.  Nursery children are split into groups for phonics and maths activities and other adult directed activities. We offer children a wide range of multi-sensory activities which cater for individual learning styles. Our approach is a balance between play - child initiated and planned as well as teaching skills such as reading, writing and mathematics.

Mrs Collins manages this unit with support from another teacher Mrs McAlpine.  Children are also supported by Mrs Branney, Mrs Roberts, Mrs Moore, Mrs Jackson, Mrs Pater and Miss Glaister. Nursery children have a 'Fit Kids' session on Wednesdays and reception children do PE on Fridays. Every child has a Talking, Telling and Finding Out book to be taken home each week with an activity to be completed with the support of an adult.
