The Bishop Harvey Goodwin School Nursery Class

The Bishop Harvey Goodwin Church of England Primary School is a happy, vibrant and caring learning community situated near to the historic city of Carlisle. Our school was created as result of an effective amalgamation in 2002. We are fully committed to ensure that you and your child remain at the heart of our school so that they achieve their full potential in an enjoyable and secure environment.
During our recent Ofsted inspection in January 2013 Ofsted rated us as good. They said our pupils make good progress overall because the majority of lessons have good teaching and some of it is outstanding. We were particularly pleased about the way they identified pupils as being proud of their school and considerate of one another.
‘The school is well led. Senior staff has high aspirations for the school and its pupils. They spare no effort in cultivating a harmonious atmosphere that reflects the school’s Christian ideals.’ (Ofsted January 2013)
As we are a Church of England Voluntary Aided School we have a wide range of stakeholders including the Governing Body, Local Authority, School Staff, Pupils and Parents. The Local Authority maintains us; however, the governing body is the Admissions Authority. We are in the parish of St John the Baptist, Upperby and are closely associated with St Herbert’s parish in Currock. Although Religious Education and Worship are distinctively Anglican we warmly welcome pupils from all denominations.
We have achieved many awards including Investors in People, Healthy Schools Award and the Arts Mark of which we are very proud. Please take time to look at our website. Feedback and suggestions are always welcome or simply come and visit us.

These values form the core of our approach to Inclusion and SEN/D. Every child is valued; their uniqueness and the individual talents that they bring to our school community are embraced and encouraged. We are committed to giving all our children every opportunity to achieve the highest of standards and we do this by taking account of children’s' varied life experiences and needs.
The achievements, attitudes and wellbeing of all our children matter. This policy helps to ensure that the school promotes the individuality of our children, irrespective of ethnicity, attainment, age, disability, gender or background.
