Bobby Forbes MYP for Cumberland speaks at Cumbria's Association of Secondary Headteachers (CASH) Conference on 30 June 2023

When Bobby was elected as Member of Youth
Parliament, one of his main objectives was
to raise awareness of the failings that he
experienced in being diagnosed late (age
15) as dyslexic.  Bobby feels that there were
opportunities missed in his educational life
to pick up on his dyslexia, which in turn
would have led to the support he needed to
gain better grades.  So, when he was asked
to speak about his lived experiences at the
CASH conference in June, he leapt at the
chance.  The CASH conference was
focusing on SEND students and how best
schools can support them.  They wanted
to start the afternoon session off by
hearing from a young person who had
personal experiences of being a SEND
student and their journey.  You can listen to
what Bobby had to say, in his emotive
speech.
